01/20/07 - MEA Sciatica Treatment

Microcurrent and color light electro-acupuncture brings together quite a few valuable techniques. The synergy of these techniques can often produce better results in relieving pain than traditional acupuncture alone. Here is a valuable protocol for treatment of sciatica:

1) Ask the patient to lie supine on a treatment table. Make sure her head, spine and feet are aligned. Compare the medial malleolus bones to see if there is a leg length difference. If there is, stimulate the following points:

On longer leg side: GB 41 +, connected to TW 5 -, shorter leg side (use polarized microcurrent probes with Green light, or needle the points and then touch the microcurrent probes to the metal needle handles to give additional stimulation). Add SI 3 (+) to UB 62 (-), bilaterally.

2) After this treatment, compare the leg lengths again. If they are not even, reverse polarity on the points, stimulate again, and then compare. This treatment is a little stronger combining acupuncture needling with microcurrent electro-acupuncture.

3) If there is pain radiation, needle Dr. Tan's Ling Ku combination on the hand opposite the side of radiation (Ling Ku, Da Bai, Zong Bai). Use polarized uA probes to stimulation, placing the + probe on the painful buttock area, and using the - probe to stimulate each hand needled point in turn for about 20 seconds each.

4) If pain is strong, needle or cauterize the Sciatic point in the ear - do the ear that has the most sensitivity on pressure on the Sciatica point.

5) After needle and probe work, test patient's pain by having her do motions that elicited pain before. If pain is reduced, show them how to do Cobra yoga pose.
