I really love this technique! You probably already know about the power of using auricular (ear) acupuncture points for relieving pain and balancing the body’s energies. You may have leaned that in school. What they probably didn’t teach you is that the results of auricular therapy can be greatly augmented by creating a polarized microcurrent circuit between the ear point and its corresponding painful, injured or diseased body area. This dynamic, powerful technique accomplishes a great deal of symptomatic relief and systemic balancing within seconds. Review the picture on the previous page, showing the use of Micro-Macro technique for relief of shoulder pain.
I’ve also used it with great success for low back pain, digestive upsets, Kidney weakness, migraines, cancer pain (remarkable) and knee pain. It is valuable for pain relief, internal regulation (through the autonomic nervous system connections) and can even be used for overall energetic balancing and as a support for creating balance with emotional disorders.
The ear not only contains points for the various anatomical features of the body. It also has corresponding points and regions for dermatomes, chakras and points of special effect. Micro-Macro technique can be used to for augmenting the results of almost any kind of therapeutic treatment.

Most practitioners who work with conventional electro-therapy find inconsistent, unimpressive results with using it.  Some good wins but nothing they can count on.  This post may help explain why.

Myth #1:  The higher you turn it up, the better it works

 This is false and dangerous.  The human body is exquisitely sensitive to energy.   The endocrine glands, nervous system and peptides that regulate our subtle internal communication system respond to billionths of an amp currents (nano and pico amps)!  Even though microcurrents can’t be felt much of the time, they are still considerably stronger than our own internal bio-electricity.  Microcurrents are therefoer in the perfect range for powerful clinical effectiveness because it is low enough to not disturb our subtle bio-electrical balance, yet high enough to “push” the body to instantaneously, and seemingly magically much of the time, relieve pain and other symptoms.

 Higher milliamp currents, as are used in TENS units, electrical stim devices and electro-acupuncture machines, are useful at times for treating acute disorders.  That is why the Acutron Mentor unit I have designed[1] includes both microcurrents and milliamps.

Myth #2:  Electric stimulation is chaotic and disturbing to sensitive patients 

This is only true when the wrong current is used, or current that is too high, as mentioned above.  There are lots of people who have hated electrical stim due to many unpleasant experiences in the past of being over-treated with milliamp currents.  Most electro-acupuncture and electro-stimulation units do use overly strong currents.   Yet these same, very sensitive people usually become microcurrent converts once they experienced treatment from a knowledgeable practitioner, and now they can’t keep them away! 

Myth #3:  Using “machines” is a detraction from the pure practice of Chinese or other energetic medicine

Metal needles inserted into the human body create electrical discharges.  This is much of the basis for the effectiveness of acupuncture.  Modern electronics allow you to deliver far more precise stimulation patterns that definitely increases effectiveness.  By using appropriate polarity, frequency and electronic point location the consistency of your results will improve.  As long as most treatment remains in the subtle microcurrent range, the meridians become more balanced.  This is easily verified by using any form of energetic diagnosis before and after microcurrent treatment.

How Light Affects The Body

 There is a large and growing body of research into the body’s subtle energy systems that reveals that the cells and molecules that make up our bodies respond directly to light energy.  Here is a quote from the article Exploring the Biology of Phototherapy by James Oschman, PhD[1]:

 “From the biology of the situation, I suggest that the immediate effect of light is on the communications pathways.  Specifically, it is proposed that light stimulates the flow of solitons, which are waves of energy and information that travel rapidly through the protein fabric of the body.  The flow of solitons opens gates and switches and organizes dynamic living matrix pathways.  Cells can then “whisper” to each other using their own languages.  These whisperings orchestrate the repair of traumas of all kinds.”

 Some Russian researchers have proposed  that the protein fabric of the body acts as a fiber-optic system.  S. Pankratov projected light on acupuncture points and measured light output from other points along the same meridian, and found that this caused these other points to emit light.  He concluded that the meridians are preferential pathways for the transmission of light in the body[2].

It is fascinating that other researchers have determined that protein molecules also transmit subtle electrical signals throughout the body, an activity called semiconduction.  The eastern European researcher Albert Szent-Gyorgyi was the first to point out that the molecular structures of the human body are organized enough to support semiconduction through passing information along chains of protein molecules.[3] 

Robert Becker constructed many experiments to test this principle, and concluded that energy transmission and communication of the meridian system is based on electrical semiconduction along the perineural glial cells that support the nervous system.  These allow subtle currents to be transported over long distances without losing charge.  He demonstrated that these semiconducted currents were completely different than electrical activity of the nerves themselves.  Nerves transmit high-frequency electrical action potentials, while glial cells transmit slower, direct currents of much smaller amplitude.  He postulated that such direct currents represented the more primitive aspect of our electro-physiology, which support healing and regeneration, and acupuncture points were in effect way stations that boosted the charge along the pathways[4]. 

The body’s semiconduction system as explained by Becker correlate well with the X-signal system theorized by Yoshio Manaka, M.D[5].  According to Manaka, this system consists of immeasurably small electrical charges in and around the body that ultimately regulate all life processes.  While the X-signals cannot be measured with currently available tools, their effects can be clearly observed through changes in pressure pain on acu-points, pulse diagnosis and kinesiology (muscle testing).  The X-signal system is exquisitely sensitive to polarity agents such as magnets, ion-pumping cords or polarized electrical probes.

Therefore both light energy and subtle electrical energy are transported throughout the body via chains of protein molecules.  We may surmise that these two forms of energy stimulation may be administered together, and can enhance each other’s effects, and our investigation so far practically confirms this.

Microcurrent-Electro-Acupuncture Protocol:

Fibromyalgia

Average # of treatments needed:  Significant temporary pain relief usually noted in first treatment, long-term carryover common after 3 – 6 treatments

 Frequency of treatments:  2 times/week is best

Equipment used:  Acutron Mentor microcurrent & color light system

 Physical symptoms:  Persistent pain 11 – 18 body areas, usually accompanied by insomnia, mood swings, digestive problems or depression/anxiety.

• Consider nutritional deficiencies, viral etiologies
• Step One meridian balance – Often treated for this condition:  SI 3/UB 62 or Manaka’s Cross Syndrome:  TW 5-/GB 41+ (left) and Pc 6-/Sp 4+ (right).  With pronounced Liver symptoms substitute Liv 3 for Sp 4.  When insomnia and nervous system disorders predominate, use Sp 4
• Step Two:  Treat corresponding back-shu points or tender points on UB, SI or GB channels, use microcurrent mu-shu.
• Gentle stretching, hydration, movement essential
• PNE Color Light chakra therapies very beneficial for core aspects

Basic acu-points: St 36 (-),Sp 6 (-), Pc 6 (+), TW 5 (+), Lv 3(+),Sp 21(+).  Disperse local ah-shi points on tender zones (use positive current over ah-shi, negative on St 36, Ren 6 or associated back shu points.  Add other points according to symptoms.  An excellent guide for acu-point and herbal recommendations is The Treatment of Modern Western Diseases With Chinese Medicine available from Blue Poppy Press.

Also consider auricular Master points (see Advanced Electromedicine).  Shenmen, Stress Control, Tranquilizer – Blue Violet or Indigo.  Point Zero, Master Oscillation, Master Cerebral, Endocrine, Thalamus- Green.

Colors-  Green (Balance brain, body), Orange (decongestant, antispasmodic), Blue (anti-inflammatory, pineal stimulant), Violet (tranquilizer, aids sleep)

Settings used:  Acutron Mentor Probe presets 1 and 2, or these specific settings:

Probes:          Intensity:  75 µA

                        Hz:  10 – 5

                        Waveform:  Square

                        Mode:  2:1

                        Polarity:  Biphasic, then Polarized

                        Timer:  6 seconds per cycle

                        Color Light:  Blue or Purple for pain, Magenta, Green or Violet for

emotional healing, other colors may be indicated through kinesiology

Here is a protocol to help your shingles patients:

Shingles

  Ear points may be effective – choose from thorax, zero, shenmen, occiput, thoracic, affected ear   dermatomes

  Body acu-points – GB 34, TW 5, any tender distal GB points.  Use polarized probe treatment.

  Use Four-Step balancing for chronic cases (see Microcurrent Electro-Acupuncture book, available from EWS 1-888-803-7397)

Colors-  Acute – Indigo (reduces secretions, absesses, astringent), Green (antibacterial and anti viral) 

For long-standing cases, rebuild the motor nervous system with Lemon (chronic alterative) plus Yellow for 2 weeks (stimulate nervous system), then Lemon and Orange for 4 weeks (tissue stimulant).  Use Violet or Purple for local pain control.
